A surprise in our backyard!

This early Spring, a blackbird came to our backyard. She picked up all sorts of stuff on the ground, moss, twigs, dead and living stems... But she did not fly away, she just headed into the small laurel hedge nearby. We got more and more curious.

A week later, my curiosity brought me to have a closer look into the bush, and there she was, looking at me.

Could this be what you thought it might be? Yes, you guessed right.

Are there eggs? The nest is not very high, With a help of a stool, I could put my  handheld camera into the hedge, above the nest and take a quick shot. I would not know what was in there before I could see the picture. Shall we have a look?

Voila... On this Easter day, in the nest, there are four eggs in a beautiful  turquoise color. Will they become baby birds? It will be so brilliant if they do.

But, will they? I have never seen eggs hatch before, have you? This is getting exciting.

Three days later. There they are! They are not the prettiest creatures on earth, but they've actually hatched.

Mummy bird is doing a great job. She spends most of her time on the nest, keeping the babies warm and still keeping an eye on me.

Another three days later...

They are filling up the nest, but still with not many feathers.

But, two days later...

I had no idea they grow so fast! Mummy bird is busy flying out and back to the nest. I guess she is looking for worms to feed them.

They are making noise now.

At one point, they thought the camera was their Mommy.

And this one did not give up...

April 6th, 2015, it is getting crowded in here...

April 8th, 2015. This is my favourite guy

April 9th, 2015. The nest looks so full.

They seem ready to move on.

And they did! On the morning of 10th of April, they flew away! leaving us just their nest as a souvenir.
